How You Can Boost Your Energy This Year

Last updated on January 4, 2023

The holiday season can be tricky to navigate, then getting back into routine thereafter can be even harder. People can often feel more tired at the end in comparison to the lead up. How can you change this and put your best foot forward from the very beginning of the year? By bringing it back to basics and giving your body what it needs on a natural basis to sustain health!

The wrong type of fuel in your car is detrimental to its health, the same goes for the human body! Avoid too much sugar and processed foods and look more towards real whole foods. This will help avoid huge fluctuations in your blood sugars and help you maintain a good level of energy throughout the day

Ways to overcome the barriers:

  • Plan ahead and meal prep
  • Research meals that you will enjoy and are time appropriate for your circumstances
  • Work alongside someone else to ensure accountability and motivation doesn’t drop
  • Do not make too many changes at once, we want these changes to be sustainable!
  • BALANCE! Speak to a professional about how to still have balance and enjoy life.

SLEEP WELL – REGENERATE

Research shows that deep sleep (REM) is when your body repairs itself and renews cells. It has been shown that this phase of sleep plays the biggest role in energy, this is because it enhances your ability to create ATP which is the body’s energy molecule. Interestingly, recent studies show an increase in cells relating to the immune system and thus a deep sleep may actually help the body prepare and defend itself again illness and infections.

Ways to overcome the barriers:

  • Meditation to wind down your nervous system before bed
  • Reduce screen time
  • Avoid coffee in the afternoon/evening to avoid competition for receptor sites

MOVE WELL- INCREASE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

Staying active can boost your energy and is one piece of the puzzle.

Fact: a simple 10-15 minute walk can be enough to help you feel more energized. Yes, that’s right. Studies have shown that moderate exercise aimed at getting your blood pumping and that oxygen flowing can increase your energy levels. And that’s not all…

Moderate exercise does way more than just help train the heart to work more efficiently. Keeping active also promotes endorphin release in your body, which helps to make you feel happier overall and sleep better. Additionally, your immune system can also function better with consistent exercise, which reduces your likelihood of getting sick.

  • A simple 10-15 minute walk can improve your energy level by over 20%.
  • Regular exercise may help you sleep better and minimize your likelihood of getting sick.
  • Exercise releases endorphins, helping you feel more energized and happier.

Ways to overcome the barriers:

  • Lay your exercise clothes out the night before
  • Do it at the same time every day so you get into a routine
  • Set reminders on your phone
  • Partner up with a friend for accountability and motivation

Combine all that with Chiropractic care and you may be well on your way to staying healthy and energized all year long.
