Looking down at your phone in forward neck flexion for long durations changes how your Neck functions. We are increasing the forces of all soft tissue structures around the spine including Neck muscles, tendons and ligaments.
But, this constant pressure also changes the physical shape of your spine and is most commonly seen through bad forward head posture.
Our Cervical spine should have a healthy “C” shape curve, with your top vertebrae being directly over your bottom vertebrae in your Neck. This allows for optional Neck and Nervous system function.
But over time we lose this curve in our spine and our head starts to go forward off your shoulders causing many problems in your Neck. If not taken care of this leads to the most severe diagnosis in degeneration of the spine, especially the soft cushions between the vertebrae called your discs.
