Is My Headache Serious?
Last updated on March 23, 2023
Headaches… this is one of the most common health conditions in Australia with an estimated 15 per cent of the population taking pain medication at any given time. But let’s dig deeper. What is causing the headache and when should you be concerned?
A headache can be caused by a variety of factors, including stress, poor posture, dehydration, and work injuries. However, regardless of the cause, it’s important to pay attention to your body’s signals and not simply ignore them. Ignoring a headache or any other symptom can lead to more serious health problems in the future. Just like a “Check Engine” light on your car’s dashboard, a headache is a warning sign that should be addressed promptly to avoid potential consequences. Whether it’s due to stress, poor posture, dehydration, or work injuries, take the time to identify the root cause and take steps to address it.
So if you are getting a headache, ask yourself:
- Am I dehydrated?
- Am I tired or fatigued?
- Am I stressed?
- Have I done something to cause it?
- Does this happen frequently?
If you’re well hydrated, rested, not overly stressed, haven’t caused it or it’s happening frequently get checked out by a qualified Chiropractor to see if they can help.
There are many causes of headaches that a Chiropractor can help with such as headaches caused by:
- Poor posture
- Muscle tension
- Poor diet
- Chronic inflammation
- TMJ (Jaw pain)
- Neck pain
Severe headaches can also be a sign of a medical emergency. If you experience the following symptoms immediately see a qualified medical practitioner
- Sudden explosive or violent headache
- “Worst ever headache”
- Associated with a head injury
- Slurred speech or visual disturbance
- Loss of balance or coordination
- Severe in 1 eye with redness in that eye
